Obituary

Audrey Louise Woods Spence was born on December 13, 1924 at Cliff, Oklahoma to Duncan and Alpha Snellgrove Woods.  She went home to heaven on June 8, 2018 at the age of 93.   She grew up in the Kingston area and attended Kingston schools where she played basketball.  She graduated in 1943 and she was an avid Kingston High School Alumni member.  She married John Newton Spence (Isaac) in 1944.  They spent most of their married life in the Kingston area, leaving the state only for army duties when Isaac was stationed in Washington and Arkansas.

Audrey was a member of the Kingston United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she enjoyed the worship and fellowship.  Although she loved her church and visiting with her friends, her greatest love was for her family.  She was a very loving and patient mother and never missed an event where her four boys were participating.  In her role as Nanny to so many, she never missed a birthday.  Her home became full on every holiday when everyone looked forward to going to Nanny's house.  She liked to watch sports and had her favorite players and teams and she worked on quilts and embroidery.  The grandchildren will always remember that she made each of them a graduation quilt and many in the family and the Methodist Church Bazaar benefited from Audrey's embroidered tea towels.

Audrey worked several jobs outside her home during her life.  She worked for an airplane factory in Seattle, Washington, three years in a garment factory in Madill, and spent 17 years working in the Kingston post office where she retired as Postmaster in 1987.  She and Isaac raised cattle and the rest of her life was busy being a ranch hand.  A familiar sight was Isaac driving his feed truck through town with Audrey by his side.  In their active years, they enjoyed square dancing with the Dixie Squares in Durant.

Audrey was preceded in death by:  her husband, John (Isaac), her parents, her brothers, Henry, Joe, Murel, and her sister Edna Mae Wheeler and her grandson Cary Spence.

She is survived by:  her sons Larry and his wife Cathy, Ronald and his wife Jamie, Tommy and his wife Pat, and Mike.

Her eight grandchildren are:  John M. Spence, Heather Lewis and husband Brad, Logan Spence and his wife Cynthia, Caleb Spence and his wife Amber, Chloe Kendrick and her husband Jordan, Stephen Spence, Brandon Spence, and Tara Evans and her husband Kyle.
