Lee L. Lemons of the Enville community was born October 8, 1928, at Enville, the son of Hubert "Red" and Lilla May Harris Lemons. He passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore, OK, at the age of 79. A resident of Enville all of his life, Mr. Lemons was a respected farmer and noted livestock breeder of both cattle and hogs. He and Mildred Willis were married November 11, 1946, at Gainesville, TX. Mr. Lemons served four terms, a total of 16 years, as Love County Commissioner. During that time he was dedicated to improving the roads and bridges in his district and through state and federal funding was able to replace most of the bridges throughout the district. He was also responsible for getting "911 Service" in Love County, was very involved in the Courthouse restoration project and in obtaining funding for the rural volunteer fire departments. While serving as County Commissioner he was proud to be able to represent the County on the Oklahoma Department of Transportation Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma – County Advisory Board which serves as liaison between the State Commissioners Association, the Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration which establishes the policies and procedures for the county road and bridge programs. He was a member of the Love County Soil Conservation Board for a number of years, served eight years on the County Excise Board and a total of 18 years on the Southern Oklahoma Development Association, four years as president of that organization. Mr. Lemons was a Superintendent and General Superintendent of the Love County Junior Livestock Association for many years and in March 2004 the show was dedicated to him for his many years of work for the youth of the County. In addition, he was an Honorary Chapter Member of the Thackerville FFA Chapter. He was a leader in the American Agriculture Movement, a grassroots movement by farmers and ranchers throughout the United States which attempted to bring fair pricing to agriculture commodities. He made a number of trips on behalf of the movement including a trip to the International Border of Mexico and to Washington, D.C. as part of the group's efforts. Always an outdoorsman, Mr. Lemons was a renowned coon hunter & wolf hunter and was a commercial fisherman on Lake Texoma for 13 years in his early life. Of his many accomplishments he was especially proud of his G.E.D. from Marietta High School in 1977, mainly for receiving top honors in Mrs. Banks' English class. Mr. Lemons was a member of the Church of Christ at Lebanon, OK. Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Von Dee Lemons.
