Obituary

Winston "Dumpy" Hughes, Jr. was born November 7, 1949 in the Loves Valley Community of Love County, the son of Winston Hughes and Leona Christine Robinson Hughes. He passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 in Mercy Hospital Healdton at the age of 65. A lifelong area resident, Winston quit school at age 14 and started driving a truck. He enjoyed going to the sale barn, riding bulls and watching the PBR. During the Vietnam Conflict, Winston served in the U.S. Army. He then worked in road construction for many years, ran his own roustabout business, and enjoyed baling hay during the summer with his children. In addition he worked in maintenance at Michelin, retiring in 2002. Winston and the former LaDonna J. Rozzell were married June 29, 1978. He enjoyed their family trips to Padre Island as well as attending his grandchildren's sports activities. He will be remembered as someone who was always willing to help others. He was preceded in death by his father, Winston "Buddy" Hughes; sister, Mary Ruth Hughes; and brother, Johnny Lee Hughes. Survivors include his wife, LaDonna Hughes of the home; mother, Christine Hughes of Marietta; son, Eric Dewayne Hughes of Healdton; daughter and son-in-law, Paul and Kim Smith, also of Healdton; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie Wayne and Jennifer Hughes of Hulbert, OK; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherry Whitmore of Marietta, Margie and Jerry Roskom of Ardmore, Neda and Dana Wilson of Loves Valley and Christy and Willy Gaines of Madill, OK; five grandchildren, Kaylee Smith, Megan Hughes, Tyler Hughes, Jason Welch, and Caleb Smith. Serving as casket bearers will be Adam Hughes, Eddie Hughes, Jr., Jeff Peery, Chase Cavitt, Chance Cavitt, and Paul Smith. Honorary bearers will be Willy Gaines and Bill Henderson.
