Wendell D. "Corkey" Elliott began this life on June 1, 1944, in Marietta, the son of Doc Edward Elliott, Jr. and Mardema Opal (Pelham) Elliott. Corkey was a life-long Love County resident. He retired from the City of Marietta after several years of service.

Many knew Corkey as a fun-loving prankster with a happy and laid-back personality. He loved spending time with friends and family out fishing. Corkey was also a pretty crafty knife maker. However, many will remember him as a collector. Corkey collected everything from cigarette lighters to old car tags. Some of his collections turned into special works of art as he would transform old silver coins into jewelry. Many things brought Corkey joy but perhaps the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with family.

Corkey was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife JoAnn Hughes of the home; sons, Wendell Elliott, Jr. of Marietta, Brad Elliott of Marietta, and Brent Elliott of Marietta; step-children, Joseph Cox and wife Angel of Caddo, OK, Leta Mullennex and husband Nathan of Marietta, and Justin Hughes and wife Savanna of Marietta; brothers, Ray Elliott and wife Judy of Marietta and Rickey Elliott and wife Karen of Mustang, OK; sister, Teresa Ortega and husband Manuel of Marietta; four grandchildren, Brianna Nelson and husband Sam, Cody Elliott, Shannyn Wofford, and Landry Wofford; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Honorary casket bearers will be his co-workers from the City of Marietta, Richard Benavides, and Bruce Callen.
