Obituary

Wanda Alma Chaney, 86, of Sanders Island View passed away on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, in Whitesboro, Texas.

Wanda was born on August 7th, 1936, in Coalgate, Oklahoma, to Walter Mac and Alma (Ingram) Key.  Wanda was raised in Centrahoma, Oklahoma, where she later graduated from High School and then married Marion Green Chaney.  They were married on July 5th, 1953, in Centrahoma and then moved to Ada, Oklahoma.  After Green graduated from East Central College in Ada Ok., they moved back to Centrahoma where Green began his teaching career.  Steve was born in Ada and 2 ½ years later their son Robert was born.  Wanda, Green, Steve and Robert moved to Oklahoma City where Green started teaching at Valley View School System.  Wanda began working but decided to take up teaching just as her beloved Green had done.  She enrolled in College at Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma, and graduated 2 ½ years later with her teaching certificate.  She was hired upon graduation as an Elementary Teacher at Prairie Queen Elementary School where she taught until her retirement.  Wanda and Green moved to Sanders Island View after they retired, where they lived the rest of their lives. Wanda and Green founded the Island View Homeowners Association, and she was a board member from the beginning. She was a participant in bringing many of the improvements to the area such as paved roads, the dock and loading facilities as well as the IVHA Building.  She was a member of the Madill United Methodist Church, an avid quilt maker along with her knitting.  Teaching, the IVHA Association and her family were her life's work.  Her presence and spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

Wanda was preceded in death by her mother and father (Alma & Mac Key), her husband (Marion Green Chaney) and her brothers Roy, Charles and Walter, her sisters Marie, Ruth, Lorene and Virginia.

Wanda is survived by her brother Jack Key of Muskogee Ok., and her sister Jo Ann Watson of Dickson Ok.; her sons Steve Chaney and wife Joy of Whitesboro Tx.; Robert Chaney and his wife Kara of Kingston OK; Grand Children Stephen Brice Chaney and Wife Michaela, Nicholas Brent Chaney and his girlfriend Megan, Makayla Leann Chaney and her fiancé Cody Brewster, Kirsten Ashley Chaney and her fiancé Justin Pugh.  Wanda has one Great Grandson, Maverick Kai Chaney.

Casket Bearers will be Brice Chaney, Brent Chaney, Makayla Chaney, Kirsten Chaney, Cody Brewster and Justin Pugh.
