William Lyle Moore, Jr. was born on October 28, 1927, to William Lyle and Justin Edwards Moore.  He was born at home in the Linn Community.  His father was a farmer, and he grew up learning the values of family and honest work.  His dad coached the Linn Community baseball team, so he developed his love for playing ball at an early age.  He attended first through eighth grades at the Linn School, then attended and graduated from Madill High School in 1945.  He was soon drafted into the Army and sent to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.  When they found out he could type, he was given an office job, and soon he was a member of the camp baseball team.  One day he was playing 2nd base, when a runner slid in hard, and soon he found himself on his way home with his leg in a cast.  In a few weeks he cut the cast off and returned to base where the doctor wasn't too pleased, and promptly put his name in to be transferred to Ft. Hood, Texas, then later to Ft. Ord, California.  While home on furlough, he contacted Murray College and was accepted.  He was discharged from the Army, never returned to California, and remained at home where he attended Murray College and graduated in 1948.  He then completed his degree in Agricultural Education and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater in 1950.  He came home, raised cattle and played several years on the Madill Area Baseball Team.  In 1955, he was employed as a case worker for the Marshall County Welfare Department.  He retired in 1987 having become the County Administrator for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Marshall County.

He and Elizabeth Mason were married on September 22, 1957.  They built their home on the family farm, and became the parents of their five children – Lyle David, Mary Beth, Richard Glenn, Robert Lynn, and Gary Don.

In 1965, they became members of the Little City Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school classes and served as a deacon.  The following years were spent in school and church activities, showing cattle, playing church-league softball and enjoying his family working and playing together.

More recent years saw him enjoying raising cattle, growing a large vegetable garden and family gatherings.  Sunday always saw fifteen to twenty family and friends coming home from church for a Sunday lunch in their home.  And for the last 33 years, he, Elizabeth and their children have hosted a family Thanksgiving Day dinner for more than seventy relatives from several states.  In the last few years he loved spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.  He had great fun pulling pranks  and making them laugh, and talking them all to see and feed the baby caves.

He enjoyed following the Oklahoma State Cowboys ball teams and saw all of his boys graduate from OSU schools.   GO  POKES!!

He was a member of the Buncombe Creek Golf Club and greatly enjoyed carrying on his love of playing ball with the Wednesday Seniors Group.  Many Sunday afternoons found him knocking golf balls over the barn with family and friends.

WL saw each of his children married, and he was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Madill, his children, Lyle and wife Tammi of Elk City, OK, Mary Beth and husband Larry Willis of Mustang, OK, Richard and wife Cristen, Robert and wife GG and Gary and wife Rachel, all of Madill.  Grandchildren – Megan McCarthy, Jennifer Moore, Kelsey Brown, Justin Willis, Stephanie Hart, Christopher Moore, Lance Moore, Sarah Moore, Macayla Moore, Britt Moore, Clay Moore, Ashley Souza, and Jake Moore.  Great-grandchildren – Braxton and Taegan Souza, Daeton Brown, Carter Moore, Emery McCarthy and Isabelle McCarthy, Lillian Moore, and Adah Hart.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.  WL departed this life after a brief illness with his family at his side, on August 5, 2016.
