Obituary

Virginia Carolyn Smith Buck, 93, was born December 24, 1930, and she passed from this life on February 20, 2024. A visitation celebrating Virginia's life will be held Friday, February 23, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Oklahoma.  No other services will be held.

Virginia was born in San Antonio, Texas, and was raised there by her mother, Arlene Brown Carter, and her stepfather, Albert Carter, until Arlene passed away while Virginia was in high school.  Then, "Auntie" Katheryn Gengler stepped up to provide support and guidance. Virginia attended Harlandale High School in San Antonio where she was a cheerleader.

Virginia met Danny Buck while he was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Sam Houston, and they were married July 3, 1961, in New Braunfels, Texas.  They were married for 58 years, until Dan's death.

Virginia loved to work and held many jobs throughout her lifetime, finally retiring at age 88 after operating the concession stand at Pacesetters Ballroom in Madill for many years.  She was proud of the homemade food she provided for those in attendance. Virginia was an avid sports fan and was thrilled to see her Texas Rangers win the World Series this past season. In the fall each year, she could be found cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her parents; Auntie; brothers-in-law Donald Buck and Eddie Buck; one sister-in-law, Billie Buck; and one brother, Frank.

She is survived by two sons, Daryl Buck (wife Cindy), Tulsa; Daryn Buck (wife Martine), Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Logan Buck (wife Whitney), Tulsa; Kelsey Carroll (husband Colin), Tulsa; Neal Buck, Norman; and Noah Buck, Norman; seven great-grandchildren, Morris Rose Buck; McLaren Buck; Tessa Carroll; Mercer Buck; Declan Carroll; Callum Carroll; and Merrill Austin Buck; one sister-in-law, Dolores Buck, Skiatook; one niece and three nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
