Susan Yvonne
Rains
December 10, 1947 – September 4, 2024
Susan Yvonne Rains, 76-year-old Thackerville, OK resident, passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Davis officiating. Immediately following, Susan will be laid to rest beside her husband and mother at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Thackerville. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Susan began this life on December 10, 1947, in Santa Rosa, CA, the daughter of Blair and Anna (Hall) Mitchell. Soon after graduating from high school, she attended cosmetology school and owned her own hair salon. Susan served as the Town Clerk in Thackerville for several years where she is credited for writing the grant that brought the Thackerville Park playground to fruition.
Susan was a very spiritual woman that took great pride in praising her Lord and celebrating 50 years of being saved. On occasion, she would speak at church, and she was also a singer in the Sounds of Joy Band. Susan was very compassionate, generous, and always willing to help. This was evident in the fact that she cared for her father, mother, and husband in their final years.
Susan loved doing craftwork, sewing, and crocheting. She also took time to work on a puzzle or play her favorite card game on Tuesdays with her "game gals and pals". Susan also looked forward to time in the pool at her water aerobics class or on the pickleball court. Over the years she traveled all over the world to destinations such as Alaska, Germany, Hawaii, Israel, Mexico, and New York. Susan was constantly on the go, but she never passed up a single opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Jimmy Rains; and brother, Delvin Blair Mitchell. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Travis Hamilton of Oakland, CA; step-sons, Donald Rains and wife Dana of Thackerville and Weldon Rains and wife Donna of Gainesville, TX; grandchildren, Caleb Rains and wife Kayla of Thackerville, David Rains and wife Shannon of Lubbock, TX, Brandon Ferguson of Fort Worth, TX, and Ashley Knabe of Muenster, TX; sisters, Connie Limerick of Broken Arrow, OK and Elaine Gilbreath of San Antonio, TX; and nieces, Lisa Hoover of Broken Arrow and Jessi Ammons of Claremore, OK.
Casket bearers are Caleb Rains, James Ammons, Jeremiah Ammons, Robbie Peyrot, Brandon Ferguson, and Yash Albazian. Honorary bearers are Donald Rains, Weldon Rains, Jimmy Ammons, and the Game Gals and Pals.
The family has asked that those who wish to honor Susan's memory through donation, please consider the Noah's Ark Animal Shelter, 2501 N Weaver St, Gainesville, TX 76240 or plant a tree through the funeral home's website at www.wattsfuneralhome.com .
