Sharon Rose Hansen, age 86, of Madill, Oklahoma and formerly of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 3:02 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Brookside Nursing Home in Madill, Oklahoma.
She was born September 4, 1939, in Decatur, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Jean Bessell. The family later moved to Mt. Sterling in the early 1940s. She married Christian Aksel Hansen in 1974 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1994.
Mrs. Hansen was a homemaker, foster parent and Nursing aid. She graduated from Brown County High School with the class of 1957. Sharon had been a longtime resident of Brown County. Relocating to Texas in 1993 with Chris to take advantage of the warmer winter weather and be close to their first granddaughter. She was a foster parent for many years. Taking care of a total of over 35 babies over the years. She worked at Modern Manor Nursing Home for over eighteen years until she relocated to Texas. She enjoyed spending time with the grandkids for a few months each winter, when they were little. She later moved to Oklahoma.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Mt. Sterling.
Survivors include three sons David Hansen of Austin, Texas. Michael Hansen of Petaluma, California and Ramon Hansen of Las Vegas, Nevada. One daughter-in -law Lynn Hansen of Jacksonville, Florida. Two granddaughters, Kelsey Adams (Aaron) of Florissant Colorado and Julie Hubbard (Cole) of Celina, Texas. Two grandsons Jacob Hansen of Celina Texas and Jeremy Hansen of Jacksonville, Florida. Four great grandsons Colson, Caden and Cameron Hubbard and Aksel Adams. Also survives two brothers and one sister Fred (Bud) Bessell of Camp Point, Illinois, David Bessell of Jacksonville, Illinois and Linda Hoover of Kingston, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Paul Allen and Dale Edward Hansen.
Per her request, cremation will be accorded, and private inurnment will be held at the Hersman Cemetery in the future. As she said many times, Mt. Sterling was home.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice and may be left at or mailed to the Hendricker Funeral Home, 406 South Capitol Avenue, Mt. Sterling, Illinois 62353.
