Brewer
December 29, 1940 – October 17, 2022
Sammy Joe Brewer, 81-year-old longtime Love County resident, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, in the Lake Country Nursing Center in Marietta, OK. Funeral services for Sammy will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2022, in the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta with Pastor Brett Alberda officiating. A private interment service will be held at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta. Services have been entrusted to the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta.
Sammy Brewer began this life December 29, 1940, in Jimtown, OK, the son of John Henry and Pearl Grace (Culp) Brewer. He married Wanda Mae Kerr on October 3, 1959, in Decatur, TX. In his earlier years, Sammy was a team roper. He spent a lot of time on the back of a horse with his friends in events at the "Hole in the Wall". Sammy loved the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting and fishing. He retired from Love County District #1 where he had worked as a road foreman for many years. Sammy was a hard worker and friend to many. He had several things in life that brought him joy, but the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his wife of 63 years, his children, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charley Brewer, Almer Brewer, Jack Brewer, and J.D. Brewer; sisters, Jessie Rackley, Juanita Harris, Noretta Wenniger, and Grace Hardeman; and a great-grandson, Landon Jacquez.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Wanda of the home; two sons, Bobby Brewer and Rickey Brewer both of Marietta; two sisters, Frankie Coates of Blythe, CA and Mary Paul of Ardmore, OK; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Honorary bearers are David Kerr, Orvil Brown, James Riley, Sonny Mobley, Jerry Burnett, and Jason Tipton.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. The family has asked that those who wish to send memorial contributions in Sammy's memory remember the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
