Obituary

Roy Albert Matheny, of Kingston, Oklahoma died Saturday, May 6th at the age of 80 years old. He was born June 1st, 1942, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the son of Gordon and Helen Matheny, the youngest of three brothers. He graduated from Blanchard High School in 1960. Roy married Shirley Jo Combest on June 4th, 1965 and they remained happily married for almost 58 years. He pursued several endeavors before ultimately embarking on a life of service, becoming a firefighter with the Richardson Fire Department, Richardson, TX, retiring in 1996 as a Lieutenant after 29 years of service. Roy's driving force in life was serving others. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason for over 50 years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserves. After retiring from active fire service, Roy continued serving in numerous roles in both the Lucas, Texas and Buncombe Creek, Oklahoma, volunteer fire departments, serving as both Fire Chief and later on the Board of Directors. Roy had a lifelong passion for flying, as a private pilot, owning his own plane for many years. He was able to marry his passion for flying and serving others by volunteering for Angel Flight for many years; ultimately acting as Chairman for 2 years. Eventually retiring from the volunteer fire service, Roy further served his community as a member of the Marshall County EMS board.

Roy enjoyed countless hobbies and endeavors that he pursued passionately including flying, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and in his later years, playing poker with "the boys" every Thursday morning at the Choctaw Casino.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters, Kim (JR) Matheny, Kelly (Jim) Pankratz, brothers Terry Matheny, Larry (Sharon) Matheny, brother-in-laws Don (DeeDee) Combest, Mike (Cynthia) Combest, sister-in-law Lisa (Shawn) Conley, grandson Joseph Goodwin and numerous nieces, grand nieces, nephews, grand nephews and cousins.

He was loved by his family, friends, and colleagues and he will be deeply missed.
