Obituary

Reva McKinney of Marietta, OK was born December 10, 1922 in St. John, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Ella Gates Long. She passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 88. Mrs. McKinney graduated from St. John High School then went to beauty school. After graduation she worked as a beautician in Great Bend, KS before moving to California to work in an airplane factory during World War II as a rosie the riveter. There she met Thomas B. McKinney whom she married on December 26, 1949 in the Evangelic United Brethren Church in Oakland, CA. The couple moved to Stillwater, OK where she continued to work as a beautician in order for Mr. McKinney to obtain his college degree. They then returned to California where she was a homemaker and mother. In 1961 Mr. and Mrs. McKinney moved to Marietta where they built and operated the McKinney Grocery and later also built and operated The Dairy Hub which later was renamed The Hub. After his death on February 21, 1975, Mrs. McKinney opened Reva's Beauty Box and operated it until 2002. For the past 45 years she had organized and attended each of the Long family reunions at Lake Murray, including this year's held only two weeks ago. Mrs. McKinney had many interests including searching for fossils, ceramics, painting, traveling with her brothers and sisters and a variety of needlework such as crocheting, knitting, and crewel embroidery. As a very active member and faithful servant of Marietta's First Baptist Church, she was recognized as "Mother of the Year" at the church, held several leadership positions in the WMU and also taught a Sunday School Class for children for more than 40 years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Wayte and Cleta McKinney; two brothers, Donald Long and Russell Long; sister, Doris Long Mettler; three brothers-in-law, H.W. McKinney, Jr., Bob Rasko and Don Mettler; and three sisters-in-law, Millie McKinney, Ruth Long and Mary Long. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kermit and Jeffna McKinney of Marietta; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ella and Randy Keeton of Ardmore, OK, Janet and Allen Page of Richardson, TX and Angela McKinney of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Marge Long of St. John; sister, Joyce Rasko of Geneseo, IL; and five grandsons, Chase McKinney, Robert Page, Ryan Keeton, Bill Page and Cody Keeton. Bearers will be nephews, Randy McKinney, Joe McKinney, Jerry Long, Tommy McKinney, Johnny Stone, Dana Mettler, Terry Long, Kent Rasko, Dee Long and Doug Long.
