Phil J.
Migues, Sr.
August 17, 1939 – January 8, 2024
Phil J. Migues, Sr., 84, of New Iberia, Louisiana passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. He was born in Bayou Petit Anse, Louisiana on August 17, 1939, the son of Odette and Eraste Migues. He proudly served our country in U.S. Navy and worked as a tugboat captain throughout his career.
Phil was an adventurous soul. He was fond of saying he had navigated most of the world's oceans by the stars and guided his vessels through most harbors in the Atlantic and Pacific. He now will guide himself to his final harbor.
His 39 years of travel took him to places most of us only dream of. We are sure he represented his Louisiana home well as he graced the lives of people around the world. While much of his life was spent at sea, we relished his willingness to share his experiences and insights when he returned to the people he loved. Ever inquisitive, he spent much of his time at sea reading to improve himself and his understanding of the world he traversed.
During his travels, the love of his life, Sharon Sampson, kept the home fires burning. Sharon preceded him in death and will be welcoming him to his final harbor.
After seeing Sharon off on her final voyage, he married Barbara Robicheaux, also of New Iberia, Louisiana. Phil and Barbara shared a short, but quiet life together in the town where they first met during high school.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, Odette and Eraste Migues; and his brother, Gerald.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara and her three daughters, Beth Romero, Robin Delcambre, and Tracy Martin; his two children, Crystal West and Phil Migues, Jr.; two sisters, Lois Hebert and Jeanette Fontenot; four grandchildren, P.J. Migues, Geovany Avelar, Minette Migues, and Jordan West; and two great-grandchildren, Amaryllis Migues and Athena Espinosa.
