Obituary

Our beloved Nana, Peggy Lynn Folsom, born in Oklahoma on October 1, 1942 passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 10, 2022.

Peggy was an advocate for higher education and demonstrated this through her own hard work and devotion. She graduated from Southeastern State University in Durant Oklahoma with her bachelors degree in science and then from East Texas State University with her masters in mathematics. Peggy was a math teacher for nine years before being one of the first women to work in the computer science arena building computer programming for Lockheed Martin. Her heritage was very important to her and she was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation.

For many Peggy was known only as Nana. Her life was dedicated to her family, "the kids" as she lovingly referred to us. Every thought, every action, every sacrifice was made so that each of us could have more, experience more, and learn more.

One of her last requests was to exaggerate her obituary and make her nicer, we giggled as a family with her that we would, but the truth is we don't have to. Peggy taught us not only to live fully, but to live with grace, to love after loss, and to fight for others. That to really live is to lose, to fail, to struggle, and to get back up. Peggy had her share of loss, but through that taught us all how to get back up and LIVE.

That is what she would want for each of you, to live, really live. To try and fail, to admit you don't know and learn, to love so much that the loss is devastating, and to get back up.

A quote she had handwritten on her fridge for years, "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain." The heavens opened on her last day, and her last breath was during a rain storm. She was saying, this storm will pass too, learn to dance in it. There is so much pain with loss because there was so much love. How blessed we are to have known her, to have been loved by her, and to have her legacy to help us overcome the grief of losing her.

We will dance again.

Peggy is preceded in death by her father Rudolph Stanton Folsom; her mother Helen Alice Fisher Folsom; her brothers Tandy, Jerry, and Jimmy Folsom; her son Charles Dale Stanley; her husband Jack Ronald McPherson. She is survived by her sisters Mona Bland and Beverly Thomas; her daughter Denna Hill spouse James Hill, her granddaughter Sarah Taylor spouse Justin Taylor; great-grandchildren Jackie and Caleb Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
