Obituary

Services for Paul Wayne Barber, 72, of Marietta, OK are set for 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, in Marietta's First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Langley officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.

Born January 11, 1947 in Marietta, OK, Paul was the son of Aubrey Smith Barber and Sibyl Mills Barber. He passed away Tuesday, March 12, in Medical City of Denton, TX.

A resident of Love County most of his life, Paul was a 1966 graduate of Marietta High School. Following graduation he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1969. For his service he was awarded numerous commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, Expert (Pistol), Expert (Rifle M-16), Expert (M-60 MG), and Marksman (Rifle M-14). In addition to being a business owner, Paul enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with family and friends. He also enjoyed country dancing and participating in activities at the Senior Citizens Center, but no matter the occasion for the gathering Paul was considered the "life of the party." He and Lisa Gaye Copeland were married in Marietta on March 3, 2018. Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marietta.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, Peggy Phillips.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa of the home; two sons, Phillip Barber and John Barber, also of the home; daughter, Jenny Stephens and husband Gary of Marietta; brother, Richard Barber and wife Janet of Leon, OK; two sisters, Patsy Williams and husband T.J. of Marietta and Debra Murray and husband Dewayne of Granbury, TX; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jerry Norton, Larry Hobbs, Rick Brannan, Preston McGehee, Tom Hays, and Tim Johnston. Honorary bearers are the members of the 1966 Marietta High School graduating class.
