Norma Janice
Woolery
November 5, 1934 – August 11, 2023
Norma Janice Woolery, 88-year-old long time resident of Greenville, OK passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Friday, August 11, 2023, in Ardmore, OK. Norma was born on November 5, 1934 in Bucklin, KS to Don and Dorothy Freshour. She was the oldest of three children and attended school in Bucklin, KS. She married Glenn Woolery in Bucklin on December 7, 1950 when they began their life together as a military family. They made their first home in Pleasantville, NJ and moved several times as a young family. Together, Norma and Glenn raised three children, a son, Daniel and two daughters, Glenda and Kathy. Norma and Glenn were married 28 years before he passed away in 1979 in Greenville. Upon the passing of their daughter Kathy in 1981, Norma adopted and raised her grandson, Justin Woolery.
As a young mother, Norma earned a Master's degree in education, graduating from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She spent many years as an elementary school educator in both Virginia and southern Oklahoma. Norma enjoyed her later career as a psychometrist, testing children with learning disabilities and retiring at the age of 80. She loved gardening, playing the piano, and her biggest passion was people. Norma's home was always open to friends and family for a meal or an overnight stay. She truly felt her mission on this earth was to share the love of God to everyone she met. Her time in the Word was made evident by her heartfelt wisdom in conversation with others.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, and grandson, Jeremy Hampton. Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings, Dewayne Freshour of Midland, TX and Doris Wingert of Little Rock, AR; son, Dan Woolery and wife Darlene of Greenville; daughter, Glenda Hampton and husband Jerry of Hopatcong, NJ; son Justin Woolery and wife Carly of Midlothian, TX; granddaughter, Myranda Morales and husband Luis of Hacketstown, NJ; granddaughter, Danelle Howard and husband Adam of Fort Smith, AR; grandson, Tim Hampton and wife Andrea of Macungie, PA; grandson, Chris Woolery of Marietta; many great-grandchildren; and 'honorary adopted' daughter, Shirley Cavin and husband Jim of Greenville.
