Biography

On November 16th. 1960, the fourth son was born to Mr. Alphonso Francis Ekundayo Abdul Carew and Selina Margaret Taiwo Carew in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Cynthia Oluremi, Sarah Adijjatu and Alphonso Abiodun Abdul Wahid Carew made up their household of six.

Manfred was formally registered at St. Edward's Primary School and later he entered Saint Edward's

Secondary School.

After successfully completing his secondary education, he left home for the first time in 1979 to work for the Endemic Disease Control, taking him to the Southern Province, where he met and fell in love with Jane Hannah Lahai Samuels.

They were traditionally married on December 10th, 1980. Their Christian marriage was celebrated at the Bo Town Zion Assemblies of God Church on 11th. December, 1988.

Pastor Manfred M. A. Carew holds an Endemic Disease Control (EDC) Certificate of Proficiency, dated July 13th. 1979.

Four sons: Allan, Michael, David and Aaron Carew were born to Manfred and Jane in Freetown.

There is a distinctiveness in the early and late life of Manfred Mohamed Asheru Carew, his insitiable appetite for knowledge and learning.

In 1983, Manfred enrolled at the Evangel Bible College in Freetown, Sierra Leone, successfully completing his studies in 1986, graduating with a Diploma awarded in 1987. His Certificate of Ordination is one of the many accolades that make Pastor Manfred a solid seeker of knowledge and wisdom.

Pastor Manfred very recently visited Sierra Leone with Allan, David and Aaron and while in Freetown, visiting with his brother, Fr Alphonso A. Carew at their 35 Fort Street residence, among the many things they reminisced about was his health. He told his brother that he has suffered for the past thirty-seven years.

Pastor Manfred's poor health took him to the United States in the early 80s and he eventually became a Citizen of the United States of America, where he guaranteed accessibility to medication, lately to a transplanted kidney, with the onset of renal failure.

Besides his Ministerial Certificate from the Evangel College in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Pastor Manfred holds a second  Certificate of Ordination, dated 24/9/96 from the General Council of the Assemblies of God, Springfield, Missouri.

In June 24th. 1997 he became Associate Pastor of First Assembly of God in San Jose, California and that same year earned a Bachelor of Science, Bible and Theology - Missions and Intercultural Studies Degree.

His unassuming nature and character was apt for refugees in the United States. On 2/2/06 he was certified and recognized for his work for Refugees and Immigration Services

In 2008 he was also awarded a Certificate of Achievement in Refugee Work Employment by the Training Institute of Indianapolis in Indiana.

That same year, he did a Program for HIV/AIDS: The Basics at the David Hoover Institute.

In 2009 Pastor Manfred was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for 5 years of dedicated Service to the Lutheran Social Services National Capital Area.

Pastor Manfred has a Certificate from John Hopkins Bloomberg School for Public Health, awarded in 2011.

On 20th. June, 2016, the University of the Rockies conferred on Pastor Manfred Mohamed Asheru Carew the degree of Master of Arts in Organizational Development & Leadership.

Life is a journey, undoubtedly. Little wonder the nomenclature Pastor chose for, not just his own immediate family, wife and sons, but expanding the business tentacles as it were, Pastor Manfred's altruism also embraced his siblings, nephews and nieces, and indeed, others, especially his able Lieutenant, like Mr. James Abu Tucker, at Maboma, Tikonko, Panguma, Taninahun and Freetown.

All these business ventures have "Journey" predicating them.

Our journey ebbs and ends not with mortal death, but with eternal life with God, in heaven.

Pastor Manfred M. A. Carew's journey on earth ended on Saturday 25th. November, 2023, but his legacy will linger and continue with an uninterrupting prospect, by all of us who are directly and indirectly connected.

May all our aspirations and endeavours be done and perpetuated in memory of our dynamic, indefatigable and unrelenting Man of God, Pastor Manfred Mohamed Asheru Carew.

May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in perfect and tranquil peace. Amen.
