Karen Sue Stowers

Karen Sue Stowers, 67, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. She was born on August 10, 1959, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to the late Thomas D. Scarberry and Ellen M. Scarberry. Karen lived in Oklahoma City, where she graduated from Capitol Hill High School with the Class of 1977. She later attended Murray State College, earning her nursing degree in 1997. Karen proudly served as a registered nurse throughout her career, working in various roles. She was especially proud of her service to Sara’s Project working as a SANE nurse in the early 2000s, her time working in the Emergency Department, and the 20 years she spent at Carter Healthcare. Karen married Douglas Lee Stowers on October 16, 1998, in Madill, Oklahoma. They shared 27 years of marriage together. She was a deep thinker who loved God and country. She was often described as straight-laced, caring, and strong-minded. Karen had a great love for wildlife and especially enjoyed watching turkeys, deer, and birds. One of her greatest joys was spending time on the farm with her loving husband. She also enjoyed sharing a good steak with family and friends and treasured the time spent with those she loved.

She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Lee Stowers of Madill; her son, Jessie James Johnson, and his wife, Lori, of Tryon, Oklahoma; her daughters, Gina Rae Johnson-Buckaloo and her husband, Kyle, of Davis, Oklahoma, and LeaAnne Bentley and her husband, Allan, of Madill, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren, Mersadee, Thomas, Karlie, Tate, Tucker, Austyn, Ella, Kutter, Bears, Maria, Colby, and Kymber, Aubrey, Lillian and Kale; and three great-grandchildren, Trooper, Paislee, and Blakelee.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas D. and Ellen M. Scarberry; her sisters, Vickie Frazier and Shirley Childers; and her grandson, Thomas Brantley II.
