Obituary

John Edd Long, a dedicated member of both his community and the military, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. Born on April 23, 1935, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late John Edgar Long and Lola Long (Williams). On December 8, 1956, he married Armanda Jane Beavers, in Madill, Oklahoma with whom he shared 68 years of love and companionship.

Raised in Madill, Oklahoma, John Edd attended Madill High School before furthering his education at the University of Oklahoma. There, he pursued his passion for history and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He remained deeply connected to his alma mater, serving on the Board of Regents at the University of Oklahoma, and actively participating in mentoring programs.

John Edd served his country with distinction for 34 years in the United States Army. Serving during the Vietnam war rising through the ranks to become a Major General.  His commitment to duty and service was unwavering, earning him the respect of his colleagues and superiors alike.

Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, John Edd found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid collector of stamps and had a deep love for fly fishing, finding solace and peace in the serenity of nature.

John Edd leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Long of Fort Worth, Texas, and his children, John E. Long III and his wife Taunya of Denison, Texas, and Pamela Ann Long of Fort Worth, Texas. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Katharine N. Long, April J. Quevedo and her husband Aaron, and Jennifer R. Long, as well as three great-grandchildren, Rylan Quevedo, Dax Quevedo, and Emersyn R. Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents and half-sister, Viola Nichols.
