Joan Eulene
Miles
October 13, 1935 – February 5, 2026
Joan Miles, age 90, of Thackerville, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Feb 5, 2026, in Tishomingo. Joan was born in Oakwood, Oklahoma to Paul and Elsie Shaffer on October 13, 1935. Joan married the love of her life, Floyd Miles Jr, on April 29, 1963 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Joan was a devout Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. Her departure from this life comes as a celebration for a life well lived, honoring God in all she did. She is truly dancing the streets of gold as she was embraced by the family she had missed dearly for so many years.
In her later years, she developed a bit of an ornery streak—something she wore proudly as a true redhead and that those who loved her came to cherish. She deeply enjoyed visiting with family and friends, listening to Elvis, and collecting anything adorned with a smiley face, which perfectly reflected her warm and playful spirit. She was never one to miss an opportunity for mischief, and she will fondly be remembered for aggravating her husband, the late Floyd Miles, with the occasional loving hit from a pillow—always done with a twinkle in her eye.
She let those she loved know just how much, by calling them "mine." She was quite possessive of her closest loved ones as well as her cordial cherries.
Joan was also known for her love of animals, especially her poodles. Anyone who witnessed her keep them in line with a squeaky chicken knew she had both a sense of humor and a firm but loving hand. She also had become the proud owner of a feral cat colony that the family will now be struggling to take care of since they are only fond of Joan, at a distance.
She is preceded in death by her beloved son, Vincent Miles; husband, Floyd Miles; parents, Paul and Elsie Shaffer; siblings, Gwen Rueda, Aleen Kretzschmar, Dan Shaffer, Paul Shaffer, Jr., Roland Shaffer, Gayland Shaffer, LaFaun Christensen, Sharon Cain, Hilda Webster and Hazel Nehib; nephews, Chris Bond, Duane Carlisle and Gary Shaffer.
She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Bridget Bond of Idabel, Oklahoma, Shirley Knight, Holly Shaffer, Linda Nida and husband Leroy, Sandra Starr and husband Gary, and Claude Cain; great-nieces who she proudly called her grandchildren, Kasey and Janson Smalling of Valliant, Oklahoma, Kayla and William Wyrick of Idabel, Oklahoma, Brianna and Ricky Stevens of Granbury, Texas; great-nephew, Brandon and Lexi Carlisle of Granbury, Texas; great-great-nieces and nephews, Kinsley and Ember Smalling of Valliant, Jayda and Logan Bond, Blakeleigh Brown of Idabel, Ryland, Braylee and Cobi Carlisle of Granbury and Quinleigh Stevens of Granbury; special friends and caregivers, Tina Renick and Miranda Fincher; special friends, Billy and Jeannie McKinney and their daughters, Michelle Barker and Mindi Warren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and loved ones spanning many generations.
Joan will be remembered as a loving mother to Vincent, for her unwavering faith, her wit, her unmistakable redheaded spirit, and the laughter and love she shared with all who knew her.
