Jerry W. Long of Marietta, OK was born June 15, 1940, in Clovis, NM, the son of Earnest Carl and Allie Frances Scott Long. He passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 in a healthcare facility in Ardmore, OK at the age of 71. A 1958 graduate of Thackerville High School, Mr. Long was a rifle sharpshooter in the U.S. Army from March 1960 to April 1962. He and the former Asynthia Swan were married in Marietta on October 31, 1992. In 1988 Mr. Long returned to Love County to make his home and had been employed in the SOTC maintenance department in Ardmore. As a young man he was an avid hunter. Mr. Long loved his pet cats and enjoyed participating in the activities at the Ardmore Chickasaw Nation Senior Center. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, often attending the races in Talladega. Mr. Long attended Marietta's First United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Kisa Ann Long; brother, James Long; and stepson, William Jackson "Billy" Brown. Survivors include his wife, Asynthia Long of the home; son, Val Dean Long of Gainesville, TX; two stepsons, Carl Brown of Grand Prairie, TX and John Brown of Marietta; two stepdaughters, Cynthia M. Brown Joiner and husband, Jack of Moore, OK and Jaime L. Ryan, also of Moore; brother, Larry Long of Marietta; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Bub Peery of Greenville, OK; and seven grandchildren. Serving as bearers will be Bub Peery, Duane Spradling, Preston Dickson III, Jack Joiner, Shannon Taylor and John Brown. Honorary bearers are members of the Ardmore Chickasaw Nation Senior Center.
