Obituary

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the beautiful life of James Everett Smith, the best father and grandpa in the world, who passed away surrounded by those who loved him most. Born on July 30, 1947, to Betty Woods Smith and James Everett Smith, Sr., he would have turned 78 this month.

James was a beloved brother to David Smith and his wife Benni, Bobby Smith and his wife Diane, and his late brother Wesley Smith and his wife Sherry. He adored his family and carried their love with him every day of his life.

James proudly served his country as a veteran, spending six years in the National Guard. He was a protector by nature—serving his family, his country, and his community with quiet strength and dignity.

He spent over 45 years living at Lake Texoma, a place that brought him peace, joy, and a sense of belonging. His days were filled with simple pleasures: playing horseshoes, watching the sunset over the water, visiting with neighbors, and attending services at Lake Church, where he was a faithful member under the ministry of Pastor Bobby Whitman. His faith never wavered, and he carried the love of the Lord in his heart in all he did.

For 51 beautiful years, he shared his life with his beloved wife, Mary Alice Parchmen Smith. Their marriage was a testament to true love—filled with loyalty, laughter, deep respect, and unwavering devotion. Together they built a family who adored him: Kenny Spargur and his wife Hazel, Teresa Meadows and her husband John, Bryan Smith and his wife Carla, Bruce Smith and his wife Melissa, and Lisa Thornton and her husband HB.

His grandchildren brought him endless pride and joy: Calli Smith, Brandyn Smith, Kory Smith, Kari Dawn Hinkle, Jennifer Harris, Cody Smith, Joel North, Kayla Spargur, Krystalene Hernandez, Bridgett Swart and Brother in-law; Dan and Elaine Parchman. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and his love will forever guide their lives. He also cherished his many great-grandchildren, whose laughter and hugs were some of his greatest treasures.

James worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas in Madill, Oklahoma for 28 years, retiring as a respected manager. His coworkers admired his dedication, honesty, and willingness to always lend a hand or share his wisdom.

He was a die-hard OU football fan, holding season tickets for over 45 years. Saturdays were sacred—filled with crimson, cream, and the roaring pride he felt for his Sooners. Sharing that passion with family and friends created cherished memories that will live on.

He deeply loved his favorite nephew, Chase Ringney, who brought him so much happiness and pride.

James cherished his friends dearly. They were his chosen family, always ready to lend a helping hand, share a laugh, or sit in quiet companionship. Their loyalty and kindness meant the world to him, and he never took their presence in his life for granted.

To know James was to know true love, humility, humor, and faith. He lived with quiet strength, teaching us all that the greatest joys in life are found in the simple moments shared with those we love.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort knowing he is in the arms of the Lord, watching over us with that same gentle smile and unwavering love.

We will miss his stories, his laughter, and his steady presence every single day. His legacy of family, faith, and friendship will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
