James Peter Burgess, 77, of Madill, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  He was born on April 7, 1947, in Ada, Oklahoma to the late Wallace Jean Burgess and Bessie Marie Wilson Burgess.  Pete was raised in Ada, Byng, Shawnee and Madill. He attended Madill and Byng schools before joining the United States National Guard where he served for 7 years.  While serving in the National Guard he traveled in Santa Cruz, New Mexico, Arkansas and Louisiana.  He married Pauline Merritt on November 23, 1965, in Madill.  Pete made Madill his home in 1975 where he has lived the rest of his life.  Over the years he worked for Halliburton, WW Trailers and retiring from CM Trailers (Big Tex).  He was affiliated with the Pentecostal faith, and he enjoyed watching football, basketball and track and he enjoyed fishing.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, 1 granddaughter and 3 sisters.
