Harry Everett Edwin Sturgis

Harry Everett Edwin Sturgis, age 90, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on May 18, 2026.

He was born on March 24, 1936 in Locustville, Virginia. Harry joined the U.S. Air Force and eventually was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas and made it his hometown, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Harry proudly served his country for over 21 years as a missile maintenance technician and instructor. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant, having dedicated his life to duty, honor and country.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Ann Sturgis (Akins).

He is survived by his loving daughters, MaLissa Carlene Sturgis, and LaTressa Arlene Woods and her husband, Ronald A. Woods, MD.

He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Zshona Workman, Skylar Woods, Carlissa O’Conner, Talen Eleby, Rhayne White, and Brayden Woods, along with seven treasured great-grandchildren and his loving, faithful furry feline companion, Lacey.

Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, building and collecting guns and listening to Gospel and Country music. His faith in God was the foundation of his latter years and he genuinely loved the Lord, Christ Jesus, and received baptism in 2022.

Though deeply missed, his family rejoices in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and have comfort in knowing we will all be reunited when Jesus returns.

In lieu of flowers, Harry would be honored with any contribution to honor our military Veterans at the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org (any donations given this Memorial Day weekend will be doubled by USAA)

“Well done, good and faithful servant”. Matthew 25:23
