Guy Eva
Hallmark Stowers
October 19, 1934 – December 15, 2024
Guy Eva Hallmark Stowers, 90, of Madill, Oklahoma passed away from this life to her eternal home with her Jesus on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the Elmbrook Nursing Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She was born on October 19, 1934, in Tyler, Oklahoma to the late George Ernest Lynn and Mattie Elsie Lynn. Guy was raised in Tyler, where she attended elementary school and graduated from Madill High School. Her father passed away when she was 6 years old. She, her mother, and her sister lived a very hard life. They were survivalist long before that word became popular. Many of her friends and relatives were in a similar situation. Guy and her mother had a small dairy where they hand milked cows, raised cotton, corn and other crops to survive. She learned how to work hard at an early age, and this developed into a very strong work ethic she carried with her all of her life. She later attended SOSU where she received two master's degrees, one in Education and the other in Reading. She married Estle Hallmark at the First Baptist Church in Madill on December 19, 1954. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1990. She later married Leon Derron Stowers on November 10, 1994. He preceded her in death on Sunday, December 15, 2010. Guy Eva lived most of her life in Marshall County. When she and Estle first married, they moved to O'Donnell, Texas for two years where they taught in the public school system. While living there, they traded with the Blocker Grocery Store. They met Dan Blocker whose family owned the store. Dan later played Hoss Cartwright in the television series, Bonanza. He was just beginning his acting career. When he became famous, Guy said he was a real gentleman and considered it a real thrill that she had met him. She loved teaching and helping young minds develop. She taught school two years in Tishomingo, several years in Lone Grove, one year in Talihina, five years in Lebanon, and finished her 36 year teaching career in Madill. Guy was an extremely hard worker, many years she worked two jobs. She worked at Gibson's Pharmacy in Ardmore, Dayrene's in Lebanon, Braums in Madill and lastly working at the Madill Walmart until her health forced her to retire in 2019. She truly loved working and being with people. Guy was feisty and could be known to have a sharp tongue, but she truly felt her calling was to serve and help others, sometimes to her own detriment. In her spare time, she loved to quilt. She did exquisite hand work and gifted them to many people.
