Obituary

Gertrude Helen "Trudy" Frederick, 98-year-old Wynnewood, OK resident, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Burford Manor Nursing Home in Davis, OK. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2024, in the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta, OK with Pastor Brett Alberda officiating. Following the service, Trudy will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Trudy was born on March 22, 1926, in Marietta, the daughter of Felix and Nannie (Stephens) Riley. Just a few years after her birth, the Great Depression descended on the United States. Many families during that time were poor and barely scraped by. Trudy's family was no exception. Her dad worked on several farms just trying to make ends meet. As soon as Trudy was old enough to assist, she began working in the fields as well. At the age of 13, Trudy began doing housework and caring for the two children of a neighboring family. It was difficult to do the housework, cook, and care for the children all while attending school, but Trudy's $3.00 per week salary was income her family desperately needed to survive.

At the age of 16, Trudy was married to Andrew C. Nimmo. From that union came her two sons, Andrew Jerrel Nimmo and Johnny Glenn Nimmo. After 16 years, Trudy and Andrew parted ways and Trudy moved to Oklahoma City and entered business school. She found employment as a secretary for an insurance agency. Little did she know that was where her future in the insurance industry would blossom. She soon moved to Houston where she worked with a company that eventually made her a partner. She worked there until she retired and became a full-time mother and grandmother and community volunteer.

Trudy moved to Mannsville, OK in 1989. She later joined the First United Methodist Church in Purcell, OK where she served on a volunteer basis as the church treasurer. She also served as the treasurer for the Purcell Senior Citizens Center and did bookkeeping work for her son's auto parts store. Perhaps one of the things she was most proud of was the time she spent teaching a defensive driving course for AARP.

Trudy was preceded in death by her second husband, Austin Frederick; a son, Johnny Glenn Nimmo; and seven sisters, Leta Faye, Viola, Felicia, Mandy, Lorene, and Dovey Jo. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Andrew Jerrel Nimmo of Wynnewood, OK; 8 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers are Leonard Schweinle, Larry Tuck, Bryce Tuck, James Couch, Keith Isbell, and Keith Isbell, Jr.
