Entering her eternal home, Carol Geraldine Butler, 89, of Marietta, OK, departed from this earthly life on Thursday, April 9, 2009, in the Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta, surrounded by her family. Geraldine was born May 18, 1919, in the Crinerville Community to the late John Arthur and Mary Ethel Gardner. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Orbie Edward Butler in March of 1995; 2 brothers, Gene Gardner and Gilbert Gardner; sister, Neva Lee Strickland; 1 granddaughter, Chelsea Idell; 3 great-granddaughters, Amber, Karmen and Kameron Willingham; and 1 grandson, Todd Willingham. She is survived by 2 brothers, Berlin Gardner and wife, Harriet of Ardmore, and Bobby Gardner and wife, Ethel of Dover, OK; 2 sisters, Opal Lee of Ward, AR and Thelma Anderson and husband, Buddy of Conroe, TX; and 1 sister-in-law, Ruth Gardner of Dover. As a strong matriarch, Geraldine leaves behind her legacy to her four children, Gale Holt and husband, Clinton of Greenville, OK, Coletha Porter of Marietta, Glen Butler and wife, Betty of Spring, TX, and Shelia Idell and husband, Stan of Ardmore; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. After living much of her life in the Crinerville, Stobtown and Brock area, she and Orbie moved east of Marietta to be near Lake Texoma where they spent much of their time camping and fishing. Geraldine loved growing plants, doing needlework and working creatively with her hands. Her most precious times were spent with family, especially the yearly Gardner Family Reunion, which she and her siblings started 32 years ago. This year our Mama, Grandma, Granny, Sister and Auntie will greatly be missed. Geraldine was a member of First Baptist Church of Marietta where she faithfully served as a caregiver in the nursery for many years. The family of Geraldine would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Lake Country Nursing Center and to Dr. Tom O'Connor for the continued loving care they gave to our mother. We are forever grateful. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dustin Holt, Cyrus Idell, Christian Idell, Kevin Norris, Justin Woolery and Robert Crozier. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Teri Beste, Carol Groat, Yvetta Crozier, Crystal Norris, Amie Cadiere, Karye McLendon, Carly Woolery, Covenant Idell and Charis Idell.
