George Allen Smith, age 90, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. George was the son of James Monroe Smith and Ola Lorene Nix Smith of Seminole, Oklahoma. He was born on December 8, 1932. George was the youngest of four siblings; Christine, Herman and Bob. George graduated from Seminole High School in 1950 and went to play football at Northeastern State University on a scholarship. Shortly after, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma to continue his undergraduate degree. After one year, George started attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University to study pharmacy. He was a member of the BetaTauBeta fraternity. In 1955 he graduated with his Doctorate of Pharmacy.
His first job out of Pharmacy school was at Vern Rex All Drug in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he met Donna. Donna worked as a fountain girl at the pharmacy. Six months later they started dating and after a year, they wed on March 23, 1957 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
George joined the National Guard while still in high school and later served as a Sargent in the United States Army in 1956. He was deployed two months after he and Donna wed to South Korea for thirteen months and was honorably discharged in 1959.
Together, the two owned Smith Drug in Caddo, Oklahoma for six and a half years until they moved to Madill in 1967. This is where they bought Corner Drug, where they served many members of Marshall County over 30 years. This is also where they raised their three children, Christi, Tami and Derek. Over the years, Donna and George traveled to 6 countries and many states seeing the world, camping and fishing with friends. The couple were married for 66 wonderful years.
George was a proud member of the Southern Oklahoma Bass Masters Fishing Club where he served as their president in the 1980s. George was also a member of and a Mason for the Masonic Lodge in the 1960s. George was a member of the Madill First United Methodist Church and a proud supporter of Madill Public Schools.
Among all accomplishments, some of his proudest moments were spent with his wife, Donna, and his children and seventeen grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whether it be at their home that was open to all, or fishing for Bass on Lake Texoma, George spent many years doing the things he loved with the people he loved.
George is proceeded in death by his parents, siblings and daughter, Christi.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; children Tami Orr of Madill, Derek and Stephanie Smith of Howe, Texas; grandchildren Cierra and Cody LaBruyere of DeLeon, Texas, Kyleigh Wescott of Madill, Shani and Broc McGuire of Madill, Chase Crain and Ryleigh Craven of Howe, Texas, Justin and Tara Orr of Madill, Shannon and Krystal Trammell of Kingston and 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
