Erma Lee Page Murphy, the daughter of Ambert Lee and Thelma (Forbes) Page, was born March 6, 1928, in Marietta, Oklahoma. She died Thursday, May 16, 2024, at her Gainesville, TX residence at the age of 96.
She graduated from Meadowbrook High School in 1946 and was a member of Marsden Baptist Church. She worked in her parents' grocery store, Kress, and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She married Roy Murphy on August 3, 1951. They were married almost 55 years. He died April 18, 2006. They were the parents of two children, son Roy Lee and daughter Sue. Erma Lee's hobbies were reading, knitting, and watching basketball on TV.
The family lived in Lubbock, Plainview and Amarillo, TX, where she was a stay-at-home mom. After Roy's retirement, they moved back to the Marsden community and later moved to Gainesville.
After Erma Lee quit driving out of town, she attended Temple Baptist Church in Gainesville and became a member of the Disciples Sunday School Class. She discovered the Stanford House, where she spent many enjoyable hours playing 42 and attending as many activities as she could work into a day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; husband, Roy; brother, Leo Page and his wife Barbara; stepsister, Peggy Sykora and husband Butch; and stepbrother, Lewis Foster and wife Jo.
Those left to carry on Erma Lee's legacy are her children, Sue Murphy of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Roy Lee Murphy and wife Connie of Canyon, TX; niece, Cindy Jacobs of Yukon, OK; nephews, Gary Lee Page of Springfield, CO, and Tom Jacobs of Pritchett, CO; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Devan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Eastman Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21st from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home in Marietta.
Serving as honorary casket bearers are Erma Lee's friends at the Stanford House and members of the Disciples Sunday School Class.
