Edna Christine Gilbertson, 85, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Legend of Edmond Nursing Center. Christine was born on June 11, 1941, in Oklahoma City to the late Vernon Hollis Maxwell and Melba Christeen Mayo Maxwell. She was raised in Cumberland, Oklahoma, where she attended school and later graduated from Madill High School, Madill, Oklahoma with the Class of 1959. On September 19, 1959, she married the love of her life, James Roger Gilbertson, in Madill. Christine worked throughout her life as a beautician while also raising her children. She was an elder of the Chickasaw Nation and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. Christine faithfully taught Sunday School for more than 20 years and devoted countless hours to volunteer work. She truly had a servant’s heart and found joy in helping others. Christine enjoyed bowling, gardening, singing in the church choir, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and creating beautiful flower arrangements. Above all, she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Gilbertson of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Dr. Cynthia G. Watson and husband, Alan Schinnerer, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Pamela Johnson and husband, Richard, of Elmore City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Dr. Tyler Watson and wife, Dr. Ashley Watson, and Hannah Rose.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents; her great-grandson, Daniel Cole Watson; her brother, James Don Maxwell; and her sister, Velma Jean Maxwell.
