Doyle Ray Blakely of Madill, OK passed from this life on August 15, 2023. He was born November 7, 1928 to Al and Bessie Adkins Blakely at their home on the family farm near Madill.
Doyle grew up on the family farm in the Cliff community southeast of Madill near the current location of Little Glasses Resort. He began school at the Cliff School, a one room, one teacher school. After three years, Cliff School was closed and he then attended Aylesworth School for three years until that school was closed due to the construction of Lake Texoma. He then attended Kingston schools where he graduated in 1947.
Doyle entered the U. S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. He was assigned to Camp Atterbury, IN for Basic and Advanced Training. He was assigned to Germany where he served until being honorably discharged in 1953. He then served five years in the U. S. Army Reserves.
Upon discharge from the army, Doyle worked with his brother Loran, in the car and truck business in Madill. In 1970, he began a long career with the U. S. Postal Service. He began work at the Madill Post Office as a window clerk. In addition, he served as a backup city and rural mail carrier. When he retired, he was serving as Delivery Supervisor and Assistant Postmaster. After retirement, he was very active with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees including serving as the president of the Marshall County Chapter for several years. He enjoyed woodworking and reading biographies in his spare time.
Doyle was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Kingston Alumni Association. He was a long-time member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Madill First Baptist Church.
On September 1, 1956, Doyle and Mary Ann Danner were married. They have made their home in Madill for all of their 66+ years of marriage. Doyle is survived by Mary Ann, son, Danny and his wife Melanie of Crowley, TX, grandson: Brian and his wife Amanda of Benbrook, TX, granddaughter, Ashley Kimble and her husband Carter of Cedar Park, TX and great-granddaughters, Maggie, June and Clara Kimble and Bridget Blakely. In addition, he is survived by sister, Doris Turner and nephew Mike Dickson of Madill. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Loran, Claude and Troy, and two sisters, Velma Dickson and Aletha Blakely.
