Diane Kathryn Bolen

Diane Kathryn Attaway Bolen, age 83, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away on April 27, 2026. God’s angel gently carried her home to be with her Lord after an extended illness. Diane was born on September 29, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she was raised. She graduated in 1960 from C.E. Byrd High School and made her formal debut into Louisiana society in 1961. She later attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Diane lived and worked for several years in New Orleans and was employed with her family’s newspaper, The Shreveport Journal, for a number of years. On April 7, 1967, she married George Samuel Bolin of Shreveport at First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. In 1983, Diane and Sam moved to Marshall County, Oklahoma, where they owned and operated a cattle ranch west of Madill. Sam served as Marshall County Undersheriff for eight years prior to his passing in a tractor accident in October 1992. A devoted lifelong Christian, Diane was raised in First Baptist Church of Shreveport, where she was active for many years. After moving to Madill, she was a member of or affiliated with Oakview Baptist Church, First Assembly of God Church, and Family Christian Center. Diane was deeply involved in her community. She served for many years on the board of the Marshall County Ambulance Service, volunteered with the Physicians Retirement Fund, and supported numerous organizations including the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma Angus Association, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Heritage Foundation, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and the C.E. Byrd High School Alumni Association. She was a lifelong conservative Republican and had a deep appreciation for American history and the founding principles of the United States. Throughout her adult life, she actively participated in Republican campaigns and civic activities across Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma. She was a life member of the Republican National Committee and served for several years as Marshall County’s State Republican Committeewoman. Diane had a wide range of interests and a deep love of learning. From astronomy to zoology, there was little that did not capture her curiosity. She was an avid reader, with the Holy Bible being her most treasured book. She loved sharing knowledge with others and was always eager to continue learning herself. She traveled extensively throughout her life, visiting nearly all 50 states as well as several foreign countries. She found great joy in exploring other cultures and traditions. Her many hobbies included piloting a small airplane, writing poems, hiking, fossil collecting, cross-stitching, bowling, playing the piano, snow skiing, and creating natural blends from herbs and essential oils. She especially loved spending time with children, laughing, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Elizabeth Guein; her granddaughter, April Diane Oden; her brother, Douglas Wesley Attaway; her sister, Susan Elizabeth Attaway, all of Shreveport; and extended family members and friends, including Dusty, Brooke, Tyce, Trace and Trislyn Pruitt of Madill.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Christian Center or the Hauani Creek volunteer fire dept.
