Cynthia Jo
Combs
March 5, 1960 – October 29, 2024
Cynthia Jo Combs, affectionately known as CJ, took her final buggy ride home as she passed away, surrounded by family, on October 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout that battle, her motto was "Faith over Fear." CJ was born on March 5, 1960, in Waterloo, IA, to Vernon and Marilyn Thurm and grew up on the farm in Sumner, IA with her sister and three brothers, who helped shape the strong, feisty and remarkable woman everyone knew and loved. She was a proud owner of Burrier Plumbing & Spas in Waverly, IA where she lived for many years and just recently retired from First United Bank in Durant, OK.
CJ's interests were a reflection of her love for the simple pleasures in life. She found the most joy in the quiet, lake life she shared with her loving husband Sam, whom she married on June 7th, 2017, and their dog Buddy, who was a constant companion on their beloved buggy rides. CJ's role as a mother was one she held dear; her daughter, Jessica Wilcox was the apple of her eye and inherited her sass and strength. She also embraced her role as a loving stepmother to Brandy Scarlett and Sam Combs III. CJ's five grandsons were a source of great pride and happiness, and she cherished every moment spent with them. CJ's love extended to her sister and three brothers, who were an integral part of her life. The Thurm family is known for their strong bond and lifelong support of one another.
CJ lived a life that was full and meaningful. Her life was a testament to her belief in Jesus, the power of God's love, the strength of family, and the beauty of friendship. Her memory will be cherished and her life celebrated as we remember a woman who was resilient and truly one of a kind. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the many lives she impacted.
Cynthia Jo Combs was proceeded in death by her father, Vernon Thurm, and her mother, Marilyn Thurm.
She leaves behind her husband, Sam Combs Jr, daughter, Jessica (JD) Wilcox, stepchildren, Brandy (Josh) Scarlett and Sam (Destiny) Combs III, five grandsons (Josh, Judd, Josiah, Sam Combs IV and Jake), sister, Debra Westendorf (Bob), and brothers, Bill, Doug (Sandy), and Tom (Lisa) Thurm.
To celebrate CJ's life, the family would like to invite you to a service at Lake Church of Texoma this Friday, November 1st at 2PM.
