Chiquita married E.L. "Honey Man" Morton on June 18, 1955, in Marietta.
She graduated from Meadowbrook High School and then attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, graduating in three years with a B.S. in education. Her major was in elementary education. She taught her first year in Lovington, New Mexico, where she and E.L. resided, until they moved back to Ardmore in 1956. She taught an additional thirty-six years in various schools in Carter County, retiring in 1996.
During that time, she received her masters in education from East Central University in Ada. This gave her certification in all fields of special education. She taught twenty years in that field.
Chiquita was a very active person and had many passions in life. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she participated with the choir and just retired from being a Sunday school teacher after fifty years of teaching. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, leaving in 2020 during the Covid pandemic. The Chickasaw Elder was very active in the Chickasaw Nation Ardmore Senior Citizen Center activities and traveled with them for many years. She was also very involved with their monthly Indian Taco sale at the Senior Center. She loved to go shopping and had a knack at the art of couponing. The biggest love of her life was spending time with her family. She had the biggest joy being with her great-granddaughter, Italey, and picking her up from school, even up until her last days. She was her pride and joy.
