Obituary

Charles Durand Thomas, resident of Marietta, OK, passed away October 26, 2024. Services will be graveside at Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Rev. Dr. Steven Davis and Rev. Les Bussell will be conducting the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marietta.

Charles was born February 4, 1936 in Post, TX. His parents were Emma and H.L. Thomas. He grew up in the East Texas oilfields, going to school and graduating from Leveretts Chapel School System. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in architecture; after college he spent two years in the United States Army.

He married Anna Marie Dean in July of 1957 and they were the parents of two daughters, Dorothy Marie and Anna Maurine. Charles was totally immersed in the activities of his girls. Marie, a dancer, wore many costumes with many sequins sewn on by her father, and he never missed a performance, nor did he ever miss a ballgame played by Mauri, an athlete. He studied, took the tests, and became a sanctioned girls' softball umpire. Whatever their activity, he was there. He was made an honorary Girl Scout for his never-failing assistance to their efforts. He was proud of his card showing him to be an honorary Girl Scout. His much-loved daughters were the shining lights of his life.

Charles later studied and became a civil engineer, spending his entire career in that field. He spent many years in Houston, TX with the firms Kracke Engineering and Miller Engineering. The family later moved to the Dallas area where he retired from North Texas Municipal Water District after a number of years.

Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Marie Thomas; daughters, Marie Tinnin and husband Mike and Mauri Thomas and husband David; and two grandsons, Taylor McCartney and J.T. Tinnin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Homer Thomas; in-laws, Emma and Fred Dean; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dean Stofel.

Charles was a Christian man with a pleasant, good nature. He was known to be a "fix-it" person and in the family, after he had been called for help, those helped often said of him that if he had six inches of barbed wire, he could fix anything.

Charles Thomas was a friend to many, loved by many and will be greatly missed by many.

Serving as casket bearers are Taylor McCartney, J.T. Tinnin, Randy Liddell, and William Briggs.
