Obituary

Carl Wayne Abernathy, Sr., 76, of Madill, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  Carl was born on November 16, 1949, in Denton, Texas, to the late Walter Preston Abernathy and Ruby Ray Howard Abernathy. He grew up in Denton County, where he attended school before answering the call to serve his country. In 1967, Carl joined the United States Army and served a tour during the Vietnam War.  On November 8, 1974, Carl married Linda Gail Bailey, in The Colony, Texas.  Carl worked many years in construction and was known for his strong work ethic. He began working at Huntley Boats in Lake Dallas, Texas and later at Crestmark Windows and Glass, where he met Linda. He eventually moved into construction, where he became a respected foreman for ASI Construction in Dallas, Texas.  In August of 2014, Carl and Linda moved to Madill, Oklahoma, where he lived the remainder of his life.  Carl enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved woodworking, fishing, playing the guitar, and watching milling machines on YouTube. He also had a deep appreciation for country music. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his hardworking spirit, and his love for his family.

Catherine Rae Bennett of Madill

Grandchildren:         Kara, Ethan, Celeste, Christopher, Alisha and Angel

Great Grandchildren: Octavia Rose, Avery Blake, Lulu Capps

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe Abernathy and Walter Abernathy; and one sister, Margaret Gallups.

Carl's life was a testament to dedication, service, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
