Alvin Nelson
Barber
July 11, 1960 – January 11, 2023
Nelson began this life on July 11, 1960, in Ardmore, OK the son of Wilfred "Bill" and Billie (Gaither) Couser. He married Cindy Ann Hauther on August 1, 1981, at the Lake Murray Chapel. The two had celebrated more than 41 years together.
Nelson was a carpenter by trade and worked on countless residential and commercial projects throughout his lifetime. He was very detail oriented and took great pride in his work. This made him the "go-to" guy for those just getting started in carpentry and for several friends, neighbors, and family members who just needed some insight on how to get a project done. Nelson could build just about anything out of what others would consider a pile of scrap material. When he wasn't working or tinkering around with the cars, you would likely catch Nelson watching an old John Wayne western or maybe enjoying a little outdoor time hunting or fishing. Nelson was like a father to many and will be remembered as a funny, outspoken, sometimes stubborn man who loved nothing more than spending time with his grandbabies and a special niece that he loved like a daughter, Melany Barber Buckhanon.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and by five brothers, Jerry Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, Don Wilson, Van Barber, and Ricky Barber. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy Barber of the home; his sons, Nicholas Barber and wife Whittiny of Loves Valley, OK, Jake Barber and wife Shannon of Shady Dale, OK, Jared Barber and wife Michelle of Ardmore, OK, and Eric Wilson and wife Brandye of Weir, MS; his grandchildren, Destiny, Mayce, Layla, Paige, Dyllan, Leah, Peyton, Grayson, and Ellie Maye; his great-grandchildren, Aspen, Madilyn, and Delanie; his brother, Tom Wilson of Marietta; a sister, Sheila Greenwood and husband Ray of Shady Dale; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers are Nicholas Barber, Jake Barber, Jared Barber, Eric Wilson, Dyllan Barber, and Kyle Pryor. Honorary bearers are Dewayne Buckhanon, Chance Thompson, Nathan Harrell, Bryan Featherston, Cody Minyard, Dillon Sampson, Jacob Morgan, Jeremiah Cummins, Denver Pass, and Skylar Bumgarner.
The family requests that those wishing to make a memorial contribution in memory of Nelson do so by contacting the Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home for donation information.
