Obituary

Alberta Louise Stumpff, 93, of Madill, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on September 14, 2025. She was born on December 11th, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Albert J. Schepp and Louise C. Katschor Schepp. Alberta lived on her family ranch outside of Manhattan, Kansas for the first 14 years of her life. She attended Deep Creek School, a one-room school house where one teacher taught all grades with a total of eight students. Alberta later moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma, where she began her freshman year at Sulphur High School. While in high school, she met Phillip Wilmot Stumpff, who wooed her with his horse named Smokey.

She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1949. On September 4, 1951, Alberta and Phillip were secretly married in Gainesville, Texas. Phillip had voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force and returned from basic training. Their first two years of marriage were spent apart, as Phillip was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict, where he served as a Cryptographer in Military Intelligence. During this time, Alberta attended the Kansas City Art Institute, where she majored in Interior Design and graduated in 1952. After Phillip returned from overseas, the couple lived in Colorado and Montana, where he continued his service in Military Intelligence. When his final year of service was complete, they moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where Phillip attended the University of Oklahoma and Alberta worked as a secretary at the University of Oklahoma Student Union. Following his graduation, they returned to Sulphur, where Phillip opened and operated a small credit grocery store on the east side of town, while Alberta established a women's boutique, the Klothes Kloset, which she proudly operated for more than 20 years. In 1967, the family moved to Oakland, Oklahoma, where she and Phillip devoted themselves to raising their four children, a couple of nephews, several dogs, and a lively group of neighborhood kids who were always part of their home. Oakland and Madill became their lifelong home. Together, they owned and operated Brookside Manor Nursing Center. Phillip and Alberta shared 37 wonderful years together before Phillip's passing on December 17, 1988. Alberta gave her heart to Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, and was saved and baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Sulphur, Oklahoma. Alberta, along with Phillip, was affiliated with the Baptist faith and helped start Trinity Baptist Church, in Great Falls Montana as well as Oakview Baptist Church in Oakland, Oklahoma. She was instrumental in teaching youth in Sunday school at several churches. She had a deep love for traveling, art, plants, as well as Oklahoma Sooners Football and her Kansas City Chiefs and especially watching Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Her adventures took her across five continents and all fifty states, leaving her with a lifetime of cherished memories. After the birth of her first grandchild, Alberta became affectionately known as "G" to her family and friends. G loved watching her grandchildren and eventually great grandchildren grow up.The hostess with the mostest, G held an annual New Years Eve party that her grandchildren and their significant others attended well into their adulthoods. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
