Rev. Helen Baker McDonald was born on October 25, 1958 in Walters, OK, the daughter of William "Bill" VanBuskirk and Beatrice Hamilton VanBuskirk. She passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in Mercy Health Love County, Marietta, at the age of 55. A resident of Love County for the past 11 years, she had previously made her home in Ringling, OK. Helen graduated from high school in Wilson, OK, the class of 1976, and then received an Associate Degree from Murray State College, Tishomingo, OK. She and Randall Harold "Randy" Baker were married June 12, 1982 in Ardmore, OK, and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2006. She then married Randy McDonald on May 24, 2008. Helen was an ordained minister with the General Council of the Assemblies of God and had served as pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Marietta for 11 ½ years. In addition, she had previously served as youth pastor of Asphaltum Assembly of God and also the First Assembly of God in Healdton, OK. Helen was a church pianist for more than 25 years as well. She was also a florist, having owned and operated two flower shops. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren, and cooking for them. One of her hobbies was going to thrift shops, and those who knew her recollect that she never met a clearance rack she didn't like. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Randy McDonald of the home; mother, Bea VanBuskirk of Ardmore; six sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Kristin Baker of Healdton, Brad and Ashley Baker and Brady and Shanna Baker of Marietta, Jake and Beth Brockett and Blake McDonald of Aubrey, TX, and Jerry Baker of the home; two daughters, Jaymie Baker and Jadyn Baker of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Lyndal and Janet VanBuskirk of Ringling; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Bill Hedge of Rattan, OK; seven grandchildren and another one on the way; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Serving as casket bearers will be Frank VanBuskirk, Colby VanBuskirk, Brian Baker, Bud Carroll, Bill Hedge and Rev. Weldon Wright. Honorary bearers are Dr. James Forrestal, Dennis Baker, Terry Plott, Denton McDonald, Colin Dulaney, Bob Dulaney, Sam VanBuskirk, Holden Sumbera and Raymond Payne.
