J.W. (Jim) Morgan

Biography

Mr. J.W. (Jim) Morgan passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday August 28, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Brenda W. Morgan, of Milledgeville. Mr. Morgan was born in Columbus, Georgia and was the son of J. Nathan Morgan and Grace Burrell Wilson Morgan. His surviving family includes son, James Michael Morgan and daughter-in-law Emily Morgan of Apopka, Florida, daughter Cynthia M. Mahan and son-in-law Wayne F. Mahan, of Cornelia, Judy M. Nelson and son-in-law Mike Nelson Jr. of Monticello, daughter Virginia Lee M. Saxton and son-in-law Tim Saxton of Snellville, son Scott Tolleson and daughter-in-law Kristi Tolleson, of Oxford, son Monte B. Tolleson and daughter-in-law Gail J. Tolleson of Gray Ga, and daughter Jaime Ruth Morgan of Milledgeville, sister Mickey M. Burrus of Milledgeville and sister-in-law Marie H. Morgan of Milledgeville. He was preceded in death by one brother, J. Nathan Morgan Jr., and Sister Betty M. Lloyd. Mr Morgan is survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morgan spent most of his life in Covington, Georgia and returned to Milledgeville in 1982 to establish his law practice. He was a graduate of Georgia Military College and the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University. He served in the United States Navy, a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and investigator for the Georgia Underwriters Association, Juvenile Court Judge for Newton and Rockdale Counties, District Attorney for Newton and Walton Counties, and a practicing attorney for 54 years in Covington and Milledgeville. He recently retired after thirteen years as City Attorney for the City of Milledgeville.

He also served as past president of Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge in Covington, and the Milledgeville Rotary Club. He was a brother of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, former member of the Covington Elks Club Lodge, the Georgia General Assembly House of Representatives, the former Attorney for Exchange Bank, and a member of the Exchange Bank Board of Directors. Mr. Morgan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milledgeville.
